I'm Sarah, I'm 19, and I'm a vegetarian. I am obsessed with all things broadway and muscial theatre. A few of my favorite shows are Spring Awakening, Next to Normal, Hair, RENT, Godspell, and American Idiot, Newsies, Once, Book of Mormon
A rare addition of an act two reprise of “Mama Who Bore Me” in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s production of Spring Awakening in Glasgow, Scotland
I wasn’t so sure of this production when I saw the photos but in video clips it is turning out to be fascinating. People who are sad about the cutting of “Anna’s Reprise” in the move to Broadway will be very interested in this.
Huh I find it interesting that they brought the instruments out and had the actors play it….is that normal for this? I’ve only seen this once and my school had put it on.
In the original production of Spring Awakening, the piano was played by actors in a few scenes and I can think of at least one other production that involved some actors playing instruments, but definitely nothing to this extent. I’d say the vast majority of productions do not have actors playing instruments outside of the scene where Georg is playing the piano in context (and some even just have him miming that). The concept of this staging (and the inclusion of this song in this spot to boot) is fairly unique.
There needs to be more actors playing instruments, period. This is why I want to see Once and also want more production of Striking 12.
I don’t know if I feel that, personally. Sometimes I think it’s an interesting choice, and in Spring Awakening I think it supports the idea of music sort of empowering the kids. But then I think of, for example, the recent UK tour of Chess where it felt like a novelty and that the score, which is the show’s strongest aspect, may have suffered. In a rock show I think giving someone a guitar is one thing, but most of the time I feel like something as integral as a musical’s music benefits from a group of people specifically dedicated to that.
I do however think we should have A CAPPELLA MUSICALS WHERE THE ENSEMBLE PROVIDES THE ACCOMPANIMENT WITH THEIR MOUTHS WHY ISN’T THAT A THING.
Transsexual acting coach Calpernia Addams on trans roles in Hollywood
I can’t stop people from hating on Jared Leto because he made a blanket statement to acknowledge the Trans community. But I won’t stand to see another post bashing him because they think he was the wrong choice to portray the role of Rayon.
